We would like to thank the extraordinary number of Principals who responded to our Garden to Table Principals Survey at the end of last year. When asked
to rate how beneficial they found Garden to Table for their students, the average results was 9.6 out of 10, which is both exciting and humbling. The
survey results showed that 100% of responding Principals agreed that Garden to Table provided better health, environmental and education outcomes for
their students.
Making money is a real motivator for students so we were very pleased to be supported by our National Partner Rabobank in 2018 to create a new Financial
Literacy unit (see attached) which gives students the opportunity to work with real money and to create a real product or service to sell at a profit.
The students get to make the financial decisions along the way and decide what to do with that profit. Students can explore the idea of enterprise
in a real-life context. We are pleased to confirm that we still have $100 for classes that do Garden to Table to use as a start-up fund – thanks Rabobank!

This resource is designed to meet the following curriculum outcomes: \n
\n
\n
Learning Areas: Money, Spending, Budgeting and financial management, setting financial goals, Identifying and managing risk\n
\n
Key Competencies: Managing self, Relating to Others, Using Language, Symbols and Texts, Participating and Contributing, Thinking
\n
Suggested prior knowledge: This is a great project to explore investment in an authentic way. The students will be given a lot of\n responsibility in a low-risk context with guidance from the teacher. The support provided will vary depending on need and the level of financial literacy already displayed. A glossary has been provided to make sure students are supported in using financial terminology. This could be displayed in the classroom and added to as the vocabulary is encountered. Having some knowledge of the food chain and the steps involved in getting food from the farm or market garden to the consumer would help. Making knowledge of this process overt will lead to students making links from their small agribusiness to the wider context of global food production more readily.

The Garden to Table Trust will support this by promoting the event across NZ and providing some donated products for you to use such as seeds from our\n supporters Kings Seeds, and seed pots from Biogrow.
