The Garden to Table Trust has been working with Waterfront Auckland and other partners at the Wynyard Quarter over the past 18 months on the development of an extensive edible garden to engage and educate children from local schools on how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh seasonal food. However, after a thorough review of the Garden to Table Wynyard Quarter Project, the board has decided it is in the best interests of the trust to withdraw at the end of 2014.
The decision has not been taken lightly. The terrific network of support and help we have had to develop the project – donated goods, services, time and funds – and the willingness and enthusiasm of the children and teachers of the three local schools using the site, is acknowledged and valued. We have also appreciated the vision Waterfront Auckland had in the first instance to offer the trust the opportunity to trial delivery of 'Grow, Harvest, Prepare and Share' concept to visiting schools.
The move to vacate the Wynyard Quarter site will relieve the pressure on some of our resources so we can focus our activities where they are particularly effective – in the schools themselves. The three schools regularly using the site have expressed interest in taking the programme back to their schools if at all possible, and the growth of schools offering the Garden to Table programme around the country continues to encourage and inspire us.
We could not have come this far without the depth and breadth of supporters we have had and all at Garden to Table extend their sincere appreciation to you and your colleagues for your help and encouragement. Garden to Table is going from strength to strength in the schools, and by the end of the 2014 year we expect to have 25 schools committed to the Garden to Table programme.
If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the Trust. Thank you to all for your generosity and support - it has been greatly appreciated.
